Results form Memorial weekend

We set out 6 jugs on the concho river and baited them with live perch. From the dock we fished with corn for a little while before the storm came. My girlfriend caught a 12 pound carp and a 3 pound carp quite quickly. The jugs got no fish during the day or over night. Sunday morning I went to a river with my uncle and great uncle. We checked 4 trotlines they had put out the previous day. Had 1 flathead that was around 6-7 pounds, 1 channle around 6-7 pounds and 2 that were about 3. Sunday night we rebaited the jugs and caught a channle around 5 pounds. Not quite what I was looking for. Thought for sure I would have pulled out a 20+ pound flathead. Had a great time with family though

Next planned fishing trip 05/17/09

Weather is looking to be great this weekend. Sunday I am planning on heading out to the lake and doing some major fishing. Hopefully the bite will be on. Check Back in a few days, may have some pics if we do any good.

Fish Fry 05/16/09

Well the family caught enough fish in the last few months for a fish fry. Supposed to have 40 or so people over. Should be a graet time. Half the people on our street will be there plus several close friends.

Saturday 05/09/09 Fishing report

We decided to go back out Saturday. We had some good fishing Friday night but had to leave extremely early because of the storms. And guess what...the storms never hit us. The temperature had dropped from mid 90's down to 70 and the wind was from the north. We got to the lake about 11:30a.m. Put in Meadowmere park just like the previous night. Threw my cast net a few times and had enough shad. We started out of the cove and noticed it was not a pretty sight. White caps all over, water was splashing in and wind was rough. We stopped about 3 minutes outside of the cove and decided it wasnt worth going any further. We stopped at a grass bed that looked promising. Wind was blowing into it and there was some structure so I was sure there would be some catfish there. We again out out 2 lines with secret 7 and 2 with shad. After 20 minutes we had no bites and decided to move. We drove at idle speed about 3 yards down the bank to another grass bed. Fishing again for 15-20 minutes. No bites. By now the wind seems better, and the waves seem smaller. Im not sure if it just looked that way because we werent catching fish or what. So we started to haul butt up to Marshal creek as previously planned. We got to the beach split were many people this month have been catching large fish. We parked the boat in 2-3 foot of water and fished again. We saw about a dozen people fishing from the shore here. After 20 minutes we had no bites, and no one on shore had caught anything. So off we go further towards the creek. We tie up to a stump in about 4 foot of water that has cover everywhere. Very slight current since we were in the area where the creek enters the lake. Fished for 20 minutes with no bites. Another boater had 4-5 rods out about 50 yards from us. He didnt catch anything while we were there either. We decided to call it a day. We couldnt find the fish anywhere, we were wet, tired, and ready to go relax.

Friday 05/08/09 Fishing report

I got off work 7:00 p.m. friday night. Rushed home with plans to go fishing, hardcore fishing. I had hotdog, Secret 7, and fresh caught shad for bait. Made it out to the lake by 8:15. My mother, my father, and my girlfriend were with me. We put the boat in at Meadowmere park on the SW side of Grapevine Lake. Our plan was to run up to where Marshal Creek/Denton Creek come into the lake. I had heard report of lots of fish and big fish being caught in this area. Before we left we saw that a storm had started to form 75 miles west of us and was heading towards us slowly. We didnt want to get caught on the lake with a possible severe thunderstorm about to hit. We stopped about 1/2 between were we put in, and where we wanted to fish. We found some flooded grass that looked promising. After baiting 2 lines with secret 7(mine and my girlfriends), and 2 lines with shad(my mom's and my dad's) we began to fish and watch the lightning head our way. It only took about 15 minutes before my girlfriend had a fish on. She caught about a 2# bluecatfish. About 10 minutes later she had another bluecat about 2# in the boat. Shortly after that my dad yells "Fish on!!". He managed to get a 3.5# blue catfish into the boat. I missed a run on secret 7 and I had also put a second rod with shad out which had a run I missed. Shortly after that my mom boated a 1# channel catfish. I caught a 10 inch channel catfish on secret 7 and missed another heavy bite on my shad pole. My girlfriend ended up catching one more undersize channel. The lightning was getting close so we decided to call it a night for saftey reasons. We were only fishing for around and hour and had boated 4 keepers.
For my first post I am going to introduce myself. My name is Jared and I live about 15 minutes from Grapevine Lake. I have fished this lake since I was about 5 years old. I am 27 years old and very passionate about fishing, nature and outdoor activities. My favorite freshwater species to fish for is catfish.

I am new to blogging and decided I wanted to try it out. I plan to update this blog whenever I hear news about Lake Grapevine, or when I have a chance to fish myself. This may include fish that were caught by me, or friends. It may include ramps that are open, water levels or pictures of the lake. The primary species I will talk about will be catfish, but occasionally I fish for crappie, sand bass, and carp. It may be updated sporadically at times.
